

Ruth Robertson Turner, 85, a resident of McGaheysville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 14. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Linda, and son-in-law, George. She was held in the arms of her family as she took her last breath.
Ruth was born on December 22, 1928 and was the daughter of the late Samuel F. and Gaye Clowers Robertson. She was the last surviving member of her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Myrtus L. Turner, one son, Eddie Lee Turner, a granddaughter, Terry Leigh Lampe, her two brothers, Robert (Bobby) Robertson and James E. Robertson, as well as three sisters, Pauline Day, Geraldine Marshall and Betty Huffman.
Ruth is survived by two daughters, Cindy Pence and husband Larry of Harrisonburg, and Linda Nipe and husband George, also of Harrisonburg; her son, Kenny Turner and wife Jennifer of Hamlet, NC. In addition, Ruth is survived by five grandchildren, Trent Pence and fiancee’ Tracy of Charlottesville, George Nipe, III of Harrisonburg, Scott Turner and wife Marilyn of Harrisonburg, Mindy Hughes and husband Denny of Staunton and Troy Lampe of St. Augustine, FL; and seven great-grandchildren, Willow, Bailey, and Berk Hughes, Faithe and Grace Lampe and Trenton and Turner Pence. Ruth is also survived by many wonderful nephews and nieces that felt she was like a mother to them. Special thanks to niece, Brenda Syres who was with her until the end.
Ruth attended Mt. Olivet Christian Church and was a member of Order of the Eastern Star. She was a homemaker who dedicated her life to her husband and family. After her husband’s death, she decided to join the work force at Rockingham Memorial Hospital at the age of 80 years young. Her new career was as a safety sitter for patients, which she began on January 19, 2009 and continued until October 14th of this year. Ruth loved her job and found great satisfaction in caring for her patients. She always had a bright smile, kept a positive attitude and always spread good cheer with all those patients and staff with whom she worked.
In lieu of flowers those who wish may contribute to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank or Sentara RMH Hospice Care or Hahn Cancer Center.
Visitation will be at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg on Tuesday evening, November 18th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon, November 19th at 1:00 pm with her Pastor, Rev. Wayne Wright and her nephew, Aubrey Whitlow officiating. Entombment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
