Sharon Rosita Barber

She was born on August 17, 1944 in Harrisonburg and was the daughter of the late Luther L. Barber, Sr. and St. Claire Tams Barber.

Sharon graduated from the Lucy F. Simms School in 1965. She was a member of the North River Baptist Church in Bridgewater, the NAACP and a founding member of the Shenandoah Valley Black Heritage Project.

She is survived by her son, Clyde Carter, Jr. of Harrisonburg; her daughter, Jamila Walker and husband, Damon of Toano, VA; her brother, Ronnie Barber and wife, Deborah Williams of Harrisonburg; her sister in law, Jane Bibble of Grottoes; and numerous grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Julian Mancell Carter; a sister, Marcella Tams; and two brothers, Luther L. Barber, Jr. and Norwood W. Barber.

Honoring her wishes, she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:00 am at the North River Baptist Church, in Bridgewater, VA, with Pastor Gerald Blair officiating.

A repast will follow at the Bridgewater Municipal Building.
