He was born on June 10, 1947 in Harrisonburg and was the son of the late Mose Franklin and Maxine Jean Holly Thomas.
Steven attended Lucy F. Simms School then graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1966. After graduation, he enlisted with the US Marine Corp and served his country for eight years. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm while in the Marines. He was employed with American Standard Company in New Jersey for 30 plus years before retiring. He enjoyed watching westerns, pro wrestling, mowing lawns for people, crossword puzzles and eating sweets.
He is survived by a daughter, Marla “Charrise” Whitley and husband, Andre, of Harrisonburg, a step-son, with whom he was proud to share his name, Steven Thomas; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, his twin, Stanley Thomas and Mose Thomas both of Spokane, WA; a sister in law, Beulah Thomas of Elkton, VA; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family; long-time friends, Richard West, Carl and Phyllis Johnson all of Trenton, NJ.
In addition to his parents, a sister, Diana Coleman and a brother, David Thomas, preceded him in death.
Honoring his wishes, he will be cremated and a memorial service will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, with Rev. Meldorise Jordan officiating.
