Susan Lynne Baugh was born January 19, 1964, at The Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She passed away, surrounded by her family, on May 14, 2026, at Sentara RMH, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer for almost three years.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Helenamae (Dougherty) Baugh, and her sister Donna Lee (Baugh) Lane.
She is survived by her sisters Linda Catherine (Baugh) Yahanke and Gail (Baugh) Cunningham, nieces, Jenninfer (Cunningham) Weaver, Diane (Cunningham) Lancor, Kay Ann (Yahanke) Earley, nephew, Jeremiah Yahanke, and numerous great nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Susan built a distinguished career in accounting and financial risk management, spending nearly two decades with Justice Federal Credit Union, where she rose through the ranks from Internal Auditor to Vice President of Risk & Compliance. She held a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Arizona and a Master of Business Administration from George Mason University's School of Business. In her later years, she was semi-retired and resided in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Her last place of employment was with Office Products in Harrisonburg where she was an Accounting Associate.
Alongside her professional career, Susan was a dedicated public servant, giving twenty-two years of service to her community as an auxiliary police officer with Fairfax County.
She had a special interest in Civil War history, enjoying visiting battle sites and collecting and reading books about the war. An avid traveler, she visited 42 of the 50 states over her lifetime. Her goal was to visit all fifty, but cancer interrupted her plans. She also visited many European countries. Among her most memorable journeys was a recent trip to Norway, where she went flying across the tundra on a snowmobile with the northern lights painted across the sky.
Susan was a loving and dedicated daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. There wasn't anything she wouldn't do to help her family, including dropping everything to babysit a great niece or nephew at a time of need. She had a tough exterior but a very tender heart. Susan will forever be missed by those who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lindsey Funeral Home, 473 South Main Street, Harrisonburg, VA. Burial will be at a later date.
