Barbara and James were married at Pleasant Grove Church in Ringgold, Louisiana in December 1972 after her Daddy told James to “take care of her or I will take care of you”. After marrying, James and Barbara moved to Haughton where they lived and raised their family.
Barbara loved and will be remembered for many things in life, among them were gardening, she studied and became a Master Gardener. For many years, she could be found tending her flower beds or working in her vegetable garden.
Her career was important to her. Barbara began working in automotive dealerships in 1972 and continued in the industry for more than 50 years until her retirement in 2023. Throughout her career, she met and helped countless customers and co-workers and remained close to many of them through the years, some becoming her dearest friends.
Barbara loved spending time in her kitchen preparing meals, canning jams and baking for family, friends, and even people she barely knew. She was never afraid to try a new recipe, but don’t mess with her cornbread dressing or coconut cake recipe!
She was an avid volunteer. Following the loss of their daughter, Angela, in 1976, Barbara played a key role in bringing the Annual St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway to life. She volunteered faithfully for many years, helping raise funds to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and its mission to provide lifesaving care to children.
Above all, Barbara will be remembered for her love of family. She was wife to James, mother to Holly and Hunter, affectionately called Rooster by her Daddy, and known as Nanny Boo-Boo to her nieces and nephews, a name lovingly given to her later in life by her great niece, Julia Beth Schuler. She was a caring friend to all who knew her and was the person many turned to when they wanted help, needed help, or didn’t yet know they needed help.
