“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.” Matthew 25:23
Billie Mace Smith—wife, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend—completed her life on this earth and entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 14, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born on February 5, 1935, in Jonesboro, LA, to the union of Alvin and Hazel Lawrence.
A Life of Faith and Service
Mrs. Billie’s life was defined by deep faith, steadfast love, and a generous spirit. She walked humbly with her God, serving others with quiet strength and a heart overflowing with grace. Her kindness was a light to all who knew her, and her unwavering trust in Christ was the solid foundation upon which she built her life.
She served on the board of the Mizpah Boys Home and was a “Mom” to many young men, as well as a faithful pastor’s wife. She loved hosting countless women’s conferences in her home to further the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Anyone who came to her home was always welcomed with a good meal, fellowship, and a place to rest their weary soul as she lovingly witnessed to them.
Cherished Family
She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Rev. Edward R. Smith; her sons Eddie Smith (Pam) of Sieper, LA; Reggie Smith of Benton, LA; and Gary Hodge (Michelle) of Gilroy, CA.
Those who had the privilege of calling her “Mamaw Billie” are Edward S. Smith, Brandon Smith (Donna), Ashton Smith (Meghan), Jessica Smith, Jason Smith (Maritza), Jennipher Smothers (Foxe), Jonathan Hodge (Lorelei), and Justin Hodge (Adina).
She was further blessed with 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Roger Lawrence (Linda) of West Monroe, LA, and her sister, Willie Jean Reed of Pineville, LA.
This family will carry forward her legacy of faith, kindness, and steadfast love.
Celebration of Life
A celebration of her life will be held on August 21, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Haughton, LA, with her pastor, Bro. Gavan Spinney, officiating. Public visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m.
Those honoring her as pallbearers will be Edward S. Smith, Brandon Smith, Jason Smith, Ashton Smith, Ethan Smith, and Levi Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Liam Smothers and Logan Smith.
Until we meet again, we cling to the blessed assurance that “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8).
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Hilltop Nursing Home, Chaplain Bill Tisdale, and Compassionate Care Hospice for their loving care of Mrs. Billie Smith.
In lieu of flowers the family would ask you to make a donation to Compel Outreach Ministries of Haughton LA.
