TYLER, TX – A Memorial service will be held for Billy Carroll Blackwell at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel in Haughton, LA. The family will be receiving friends at 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Billy was born in Wilmot, AR on June 13, 1931. He joined the Air Force at age 17 where he became a boom operator refueling planes midair, eventually retiring from Barksdale Air Force Base. Billy enjoyed many different careers such as carpentry and swimming pool construction. None satisfied him as much as a good cup of coffee and visiting with friends and relatives. Billy was the youngest of 16 siblings. His sisters mothered him as much as his own wonderful mother Pearl Blackwell. Bill married Peggy in 1930 and had 4 daughters raised in Bossier City. His last home was on Lake Palestine, Texas which brought him many memorable sunsets. For the past 2 years Billy lived at the Tyler Veterans Home where many war stories were told. The staff there became family and we are so grateful to them for taking such good care of our father.
Billy is survived by his wife Peggy and his daughters Sharon Stephens, Lynn Holmes, Kamie Haase, Lori Estep. Grandchildren Justin Stephens, Lindsey Taylor, Loren Haislip, Ryan Estep, Brennan Haase, Kaitlyn Estep. Great grandchildren Hudson Stephens, Harper Stephens, Lainey Taylor
