A memorial will be held to honor the life of Louis E. “Buddy” Mowry at 2:00 pm on Saturday July 9, 2022 at the Elks Club and Lodge No. 122. Located at 310 E Preston in Shreveport, LA. Buddy was an avid fan of the LSU Tigers so the family requests guests wear purple and gold. Buddy loved a good party so after the memorial we will continue celebrating him, swapping stories, and toasting to the amazing person he was.
Buddy was born on May 17, 1954 in Wichita Falls, TX and passed away on July 3, 2022 in Shreveport, LA after a long battle with cancer. He and his father worked together at Koch Supplies for several years which gave him the opportunity to travel all over the world. He wanted to be closer to his daughter so he changed career paths. Buddy worked in liquor sales as a manager for both Glazer's and Republic for many years.
Buddy loved anything competitive. From competing in cook offs to Sunday morning water volleyball games. His favorite time of year was always football season. You could always count on him to be in front of the TV anytime there was a game on.
Buddy was an active member in the Shreveport Chapter of The Elks Lodge for 31 years. Throughout the years, he held many positions including the highest honor of being Exalted Ruler. He built such a great relationship with so many of the other members that they became his second family.
On Christmas Day of 2014, Buddy received the greatest gift of all. He met the love of his life and his best friend, Brenda. Their love remained steadfast and unwavering through the good times and the bad times. It seemed Buddy fought harder and longer just to have a little more time with her.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Jo Mowry. Buddy is survived by his wife, Brenda Mowry; daughter, Brittany Childs and husband Matthew; step daughter, Amelia Lunsford and husband Stephen Cade; father and number one fishing partner, Butch Mowry and his wife Billie; sister Vickie McClurg and husband Lew; sister Debbie Butler and husband Pat; nieces, Kimberly Shapiro and Candace McClurg; nephews, cousins, extended family members and great friends, and last (but not least), his loving canine companion, Mikey.
The family would like to thank Christus Health Cancer Center, Shreveport Fire Dept. #11, St. Joseph’s Hospice, Father Richard Norsworthy and Tony Nations for their kindness, comfort and care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sarcoma Foundation of America or to The Elks Lodge Water Volleyball Team Scholarship fund.
