Chief Master Sergeant Chalma Lee Sexton Jr., 73, born August 9, 1950 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Mary Ella Sherlock Good and Chalma L. Sexton, Sr., passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024 in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Lee joined the United States Air Force on August 17, 1970 and served for 29 years. His military career includes fourteen permanent assignments around the globe to include numerous temporary and contingency assignments. His most memorable experiences included attending and graduating from the FBI Academy, serving as an Air Division and Wing Command Chief/ Master Sergeant, and providing tactical leadership for the Air Force Special Emergency Services (AFSEF) during the 1979 Iranian Hostage Crisis to include protecting the deposed Shah of Iran and his family.
Chief Sexton was the first Air Force Security Police Senior NCO to win the Lance P. Sijan USAF Leadership Award, the Air Force's highest leadership honor. His awards and decorations include, the Meritorious Service Medal with 3 OLCs, Air Force Commendation Medal with 3 OLCs, Air Force Achievement Medal with 1 OLC, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 8 OLCs, Air Force Recognition Ribbon, Outstanding Airman of the Year Ribbon, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 1 BS and the Air Force Small Arms Expert Ribbon with 1 BS. He is also the author of USAF Chief Master Sergeant Former Prisoners of War and Missing in Action.
Lee was a proud graduate of Warren Easton Charter High School. He exceeded in drama, debate and chorus. He was the Drama Club President and in 1970 he was the Louisiana Debate Champion. Lee continued to serve his school as an alumni board member and was very proud to be chosen for the Warren Easton Hall of Fame. An honor he shares with such notables as Pete Fountain and actor Anthony Mackie. Lee holds three Associates Degrees in Applied Science (Police Science/Instructor Technology
and Criminal Justice) from the Community College of the Air Force, Maxwell AFB, AL; as well as a BS in Criminal Justice from Brighton University, Honolulu, HI; Masters of Science in Police Administration from Brighton University, Honolulu, HI and Masters of Science in Management and Human Resource Development from Johannine Institute, Boulder, CO.
Lee loved: to read, old movies and movie themes. Some of his favorites subjects were American, British and Louisiana History. He loved drama and going to plays and museums Lee met Leslie when he was assigned to Minot AFB, North Dakota in 1971. They were married in June of 1973 at Mather AFB, California. They have one daughter, Heather Lee (Sexton) McGehee. Lee and Leslie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June, 16 2023.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ella Good; step father, William Good, Jr. and sister, Pamela Good.
Lee is survived by his wife, Leslie E. Sexton TSgt. USAF-Ret.; daughter, Heather Lee McGehee and husband Heath; nephew, Ronald Good; niece, Kylie Good; and grand nieces, Kelsey and Kassidee Good.
Services celebrating the life of Chief Master Sergeant Sexton will be held Friday, May 10, 2024 at 2pm at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held prior to services Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 5pm until 7pm with a Rosary beginning at 7pm. Interment will immediately follow services Friday, May 10, 2024 at Hill Crest Memorial Park. At the conclusion of all services, everyone is invited to the reception in the Hospitality Room at Hill Crest.
Honoring Chief Sexton as pallbearers will be Dennis Desilet, Josh Desilet, Cesar Marrero, Ron Schroeder, Alan Schaefer, TSgt Chandi Alamos, SSgt Adain Schryvers, SrA Keon Brown and A1C Jamael Branson-Perteet.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, Shriners, Mary's House in Shreveport or Tunnels to Towers in Lee's honor.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff at Cypress Point for their care and kindness. They are amazing people. The family wishes to extend that thanks to the VA and Willis Knighton ER and SDU units or their exceptional care.
