Charles Dixon, born on October 10, 1938, passed away on February 22, 2026, at the age of 87. A respected resident of Ida, Louisiana, Charles was known for his dedication to his work and his love for his family, friends and community.
Charles had a distinguished career with Penrod Drilling Co., where he worked his way up from a roustabout to a tool pusher. His commitment to his profession was evident as he often held two jobs at one time during his early years. Outside of work, Charles had a deep passion for horses, and owned numerous thoroughbred, and quarter horses. He enjoyed racing his horses at Louisiana Downs, Oaklawn Park Racetrack, Fairgrounds Race Course and Delta Downs and several of them stood proudly in the winner's circle.
Above all, Charles cherished his only child, his daughter, Shirley Kay Dixon Ward. A godly man, Charles showered his family with love and support, frequently hosting church gatherings in his home filled with warmth and good food. His faith was an integral part of his life, and he loved attending church and worshiping his Lord.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Shirley Kay Dixon Ward, his brother Terry Dixon, and sisters-in-law Shirley Allen Brown and Carolyn Humphrey. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Michael "Mike" Page, whom he loved like a son.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sallie Middleton Dixon, his father, Julius Dixon, his wife and mother of his child, Juanita Humphrey Dixon, his brother Alva Dixon, and his sisters Joann Dixon Barnhill and Ouida Dixon Craig.
A visitation will begin 11:00 am on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 pm at Rose-Neath Cemetery in Bossier City with Brother Billy Crosby officiating.
The family extends special thanks to Dr. Bass and to Abby Leonard from Shreveport Rehabilitation in Shreveport. Gratitude is also expressed to St. Joseph Carpenters House for their outstanding care and support, as well as to their special nurse Kelsey at the Carpenters House.
