

Elizabeth Mary Tohill Herman of Haughton, Louisiana passed away in Bossier City on September 30, 2016, after a brief illness. Mrs. Herman was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, to Linda and Francis Tohill, spent her childhood in Bendigo, and in her teens, returned to Melbourne with her parents and six siblings, James, John, Joan, Francis, Anthony, and Patrick. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s College in Melbourne.
Mrs. Herman met her husband, Adrian C. Herman of Claremont, North Carolina, when he was a U.S. Marine stationed in Melbourne during World War II. After the war, Mrs. Herman sailed on a war brides ship to San Francisco and then took a train across the United States to Washington, D.C., where she and her husband were married. They soon moved to North Carolina where they raised their four daughters.
Mrs. Herman worked for many years at the Greensboro, North Carolina Public Library, which she very much enjoyed, given her love of books. She also loved to travel; she toured Ireland, the land of her grandparents, as well as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Japan.
Mrs. Herman was the beloved wife of her late husband of thirty-five years. She was the loving mother of Linda Ogden (the late Russel Ogden) of Carolina Beach, North Carolina; Victoria Herman of Arlington, Virginia; Michelle Goldberg (Michael Goldberg) of Pacific Grove, California; and LtCol (ret) Sharon Herman of Haughton, Louisiana. She was blessed with four grandsons, Justin Ogden of Rochester, New York; Jason Ogden (Jacqueline Ogden) of Streetsboro, Ohio; Jeremy Ogden (Jennifer Ogden) of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Jonathan Ogden (Abby Ogden) of Powell, Ohio; and with six great-grandchildren, Brynn, Owen, Reese, Lilly, Audrey, and Lucy Elizabeth Ogden.
