January 24, 1942 – January 9, 2024
Our beloved uncle, Ellis Sams (Uncle Sam), went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. He passed away peacefully in his home.
Ellis was preceded in death, 3 ½ months, by his devoted and loving wife of 58 years, Myrtle L’lene Rascoe Sams, (Aunt Sissy); his father and mother, Chonis & Dessie Mae Rice Sams; siblings, Ernest Sams, Emerson Sams, Edward Sams, Minnie Brown, and Robena Metcalf; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. S. B. and Esther Lou Dykes Rascoe; brother-in-law, T. W. “Sonny” Rascoe (his best buddy).
Ellis is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Janette Griffis.
Ellis was born in Madison County, North Carolina on January 24, 1942, he was the youngest of the siblings. He joined the Air Force in 1962. He was proud to serve his country.
In 1965, he married the love of his life. Myrtle loved to cook and Ellis loved to eat. They loved to travel in their motor home. Together they enjoyed camping, hiking, snow skiing, hunting, and working in their yard, they loved the great outdoors. They took great pleasure in living life to the fullest.
Ellis could fix just about anything. If you had a car problem, a/c problem, plumbing problem, etc., he was your man. Ellis worked for several commercial temperature control companies before becoming self-employed as a contractor.
Uncle Sam and Aunt Sissy loved their families, especially their nieces and nephews. They invested so much time and love in them. Each has special memories and stories to cherish and tell their children and grandchildren.
This couple’s number one priority was a committed life of service for their Lord, Jesus Christ. This was more important to them than anything they could ever accomplish in this world. They were members of the Pentecostal Church. Ellis studied the Bible and taught many Bible Studies. There were very few questions he couldn’t answer. They had special relationships with their God and believed in the power of prayer. Ellis and Myrtle both lived their lives with servant hearts.
Services in his honor will begin at 9:00 am with a visitation, followed by the the Funeral at 10:00 am, each being held Saturday, March 9, 2024, within the Chapel of Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, Haughton, LA. Interment will occur in the Hill Crest Cemetery.
