

Funeral services for Frances Loretta Murrell Lampkin, 75, will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the South Bossier Baptist Church, with Dr. David Lane officiating. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park.Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Hill Crest Funeral Home.
Loretta Lampkin went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 26, 2010 at Pilgrim Manor Guest House. She was a graduate of Fairpark High School in Shreveport, LA. Mrs. Lampkin received her Bachelor of Science degree from East Texas Baptist University in 1958, a Master of Arts from Northwestern University in 1970, and a PhD from Texas A&M in 1985. In
1992, she completed a five year Course of Study at Perkins Theological Seminary at SMU Dallas. Mrs. Lampkin began her profesional career as a legal secretary and Notary Public, but spent the majority of her career as a gifted teacher of writing and the Bible as Literature at Louisiana State University in Shreveport where she served as an assiciate professor.Obediient to the Lord's call on her life and with great joy, she retired from LSU-S in 1989 to embark on a new career in ministry with the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist Church.She served two years as a full-time associate pastor at the First United Methodist Church of Bossier City, where she had been a long-time member and Sunday school teacher. She also served a year as the pastor of Logansport-Bethel, and retired a second time after serving two years at Hall Summit and Cross Roads United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Lampkin was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank M. Lampkin,Jr., parents William E. Murrell,Sr. and Mildred Shipp Murrell of Shreveport and step-son Frank M. "Skip" Lampkin,III. She is survived by her brother W.E. Murrell and wife Mae and her sister Mable Murrell Berry and husband Bo; children William Robert Gilliam, III and wife Erin, Daughter Laura Gilliam Bryant and husband Carl, step-children Arthur Teague Lampkin, and Elsa Elizabeth "Liz" Lampkin Barker, grandchildren James "J.C." Bryant, Jacob C. Bryant, Kelsey Gilliam, Kailey Gilliam, Dallas Paige Lampkin, Shauna R. Lampkin, Amanda Nicole Barker McCoy and husband Henry, Holly Elizabeth Barker Hoffman and husband Chad; two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews..
Mrs. Lampkin loved her family and devoted herself to the care and proper "spoiling" of her children and many grandchildren. Although she had a full-time career well into her 60's she played a very active role in the care of her grandchildren as long as her health would allow. She had an open heart and open home for anyone who needed a place to be. She had a passion for music and learned to play the drums at age 64 with grandson, J.C. She was an incredible cook who loved to feed large crowds and have big holiday celebratoins. Loretta enjoyed writing, crocheting, quilting and gardening. Most of all she loved her Lord Jesus and lived out a life of community and Christian service before her family and friends.
