Gene E. McDaniel, age 93, died December 6, 2021, after a short illness while in Hospice care. The family is grateful to The Carpenter’s House for their loving care. He was born in Urania, Louisiana on January 28, 1928, the son of Willie and Ruby (Bearden) McDaniel.
Gene graduated from Urania High School and then joined the U.S Army and served in occupied Japan. Upon returning home, he attended and graduated from Northeast University with a degree in geology. He worked for Western Geophysical Company as a “Computer” for 25 years. He then changed occupations and worked for the State of Louisiana in Disability Determination.
During his time in college he married the love of his life, Ida Lee Williams. They enjoyed a long life together; until her passing in 2007.
Gene was an avid reader and always enjoyed the outdoors; fishing and hunting. But his favorite past-time was being with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Also his wife, Ida Lee; 2 sons – Alan McDaniel and Joey McDaniel; one sister, Billie Beth King; and one grand-daughter, Melissa Clayton Garcia. He is survived by one daughter, Donna McDaniel Clayton and husband James. He also is survived by grand children, Jim Clayton and wife Emily, Tim Clayton and wife Azadeh, Jeff McDaniel and wife Kathryn, Jennifer Dudley and husband Mike and Lindsey Antee and husband Andy; and grandson-in-law, John Garcia. They have given him 7 great-grand-children. He has many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 10, 2021. There will be a visitation preceding at 1:00 P.M. at Hill Crest Funeral Home in Haughton, LA. Pallbearers will be James Clayton, Tim Clayton, Mike Dudley, John Garcia, Andy Antee, and Richard Pilinski. Honorary pallbearers are Jeff McDaniel and John Youngblood.
