

Genevieve “Cookie” Holley Avery, age 84, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2026, in Bossier City, Louisiana. Genevieve was born August 8, 1941, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Lemuel Andrews Holley and Elba Lee Holland Holley.
After a dedicated career, she retired from General Motors as a supervisor. In retirement, she generously volunteered with Christian Services, working alongside Sr. Margaret.
She treasured time spent doing crafts with her grandchildren and found joy in puzzles and cross-stitch. She loved traveling and making memories with her sisters, as well as searching for special finds at garage sales and craft shows.
Cookie is survived by four sons, Bobby Avery, Lanny Avery and wife Monica, Vincent Avery, and Johnny Avery; eight grandchildren, Chelsea Rebstock and husband Trey, Colt Avery and wife Jenifer, Tiffany Norman and husband Phillip, Jason Avery, Amy Avery, Colby Avery, Amber Avery, and Andrew Avery; seven great grandchildren, Kai, Ember, Marley, Lily, Ivy, Hayden, and Walker. Cookie is also survived by her sister, Mary Gordon and husband Ron, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lemuel and Elba Holley; sisters, Carolyn Holley, Kathy Haas, and Mary Ann Giovengo; brothers, James Holley and Johnny Holley, and great granddaughter, Cassidy Anne Norman.
Pallbearers will be Jason Avery, Colt Avery, John Harvey, James Harvey, John Porter, and Joey Giovengo.
A visitation for Cookie will be Sunday, February 22, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, 601 Hwy 80 E. Haughton, Louisiana 71037. A celebration of life will be held Monday, February 23, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 425 McCormick St., Bossier City, Louisiana 71111.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America at alzfdn.org or by mail at 322 Eighth Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to JoAnn Porter, Cookie’s sister of the heart, whose friendship was a true blessing and whose kindness will never be forgotten.
