

Gerald “Jerry” Daniel Crawford, a devoted Marine, beloved family man, and friend, passed away on December 18, 2024, at the age of 80 in Shreveport, LA. Born in West Monroe, LA, on January 2, 1944, to Daniel Mimms Crawford and Melinda Mozell Crawford, Jerry led a life of service and dedication to both his country and his loved ones.
Jerry proudly served 21 years in the United States Marine Corps, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant as a Bulk Fuel Specialist and Recruiter. His service was marked by distinction, earning numerous awards and decorations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal with one silver star and one bronze star (8th award) National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four stars, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Rifle Sharpshooter, and Pistol Expert (4th award), and. He was a true patriot who embodied the values of loyalty, duty, and honor.
Jerry is survived by his brother, Richard “Ric” F. Crawford; sons Edward “Eddie” D. Crawford and R. Brian Crawford (wife Diana); daughter Traci Melinda Ann Thomas (husband John); grandchildren Brianna D. Crawford (Brian), John R. Thomas, III (Traci), and Isabella R. Thomas (Traci); great-grandson Dalon Caleb Hampton (Brian); as well as numerous nieces and nephews who cherished him as a favorite uncle. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Molly Jo.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Dorothy Ann Crawford; his parents, Dan and Linda Crawford; his brother, Jimmy Crawford; his grandson, Caleb M. Crawford; and his cherished dog Pokie.
Jerry had a deep love for his family and treasured time spent with them. He was also passionate about his involvement with the Marine Corps League Red River Detachment, where he made lasting friendships. In his leisure time, Jerry found joy in hunting and often spent weekends at his Deer Camp, where he made countless memories.
A memorial service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, with visitation at 1:30 p.m. and the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton, LA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Marine Corps League, PO Box 806, Barksdale Air Force Base, LA 71110, in memory of Jerry Crawford.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at the Pathway Rehabilitation Hospital in Bossier City for their care and support.
Jerry will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, kind heart, and commitment to those he loved. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Semper Fi!
