It is with deep sadness and enduring love that we announce the passing of Hazel Gertrude Gaitan, who departed this life on June 6, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on December 11, 1945, in Marthaville, Louisiana, Hazel lived a life filled with grace, charm, and a love for all things beautiful.
Hazel worked for over three decades as a bookkeeper at Shreveport Ethanol, where her diligence, integrity, and attention to detail were deeply valued. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Hazel was most known and loved for the vibrant spirit she brought into the lives of others.
She was a devoted wife, a cherished sister, and a beloved aunt to many. Hazel loved shopping, sharing laughter with her family, and living life with flair. She also had a special place in her heart for her dog, Fluffy, who was her loyal and loving companion. She found joy in the finer things, always striving for the best, not just in material beauty but in how she treated those around her—with generosity, kindness, and strength. Her sweet and spicy personality made her unforgettable.
Those who knew her will remember her elegance, her warmth, and her bold sense of style and spirit.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Bobby Gibson, and her second husband, Agustin Gaitan; her brother, George Hinton; sisters Mary Briggs and Merle Keith; her mother, Ila Mae Cobbs; and her father, Jewel Cobbs.
Hazel is survived by her sisters, Opal Forsythe Brown and Mozelle Rutledge, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. A visitation for Hazel will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, Louisiana 71037, followed by a celebration of life at 1:00 PM.
In loving memory, we say goodbye to Hazel—grateful for the joy she brought, the love she gave, and the light she leaves behind.
