At 18, Jack joined the Navy and served on a PT Boat in the Philippines during WWII. After the war, he was in Tyler, Texas at a skating rink when he met the twins, Patsy and Peggy. He married his love, Peggy, and they were together for 65 years till her death in 2012. Jack and Peggy moved to Homer, LA, where he got a job in the oilfield. Eventually, he went to work with Sawyer Drilling. He worked with Ronnie Sawyer for 40 years, along with hundreds of co-workers.
Jack loved golf. He played it whenever, wherever, and for as long as he could. His favorite golf partner, Peggy, made a hole in one. He never did. But, he was more happy for her than he ever could have been for himself.
Jack was born the second of three children to John and Gladys in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His sister, Pat Amis, predeceased him. His brother, Dick, lives in Dallas with wife Sarah. Peggy’s twin sister, Patsy, lives nearby in Shreveport. Jack and Peggy had four children: Mike (wife Mitzi), Rickey (wife Sherry), Connie, and Patti (husband Kevin). They had numerous grandkids and great-grandkids, nieces and nephews. Affectionately known as “Daddy Jack,” he made them all smile.
Services will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, Haughton, LA, on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 4:00 p.m. with Dr. Larry Williams and Ronnie Sawyer to speak. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park, Haughton, LA.
