James joined the United States Air Force in 1946. He served his country for 23 years earning the rank of Lt. Colonel. He attended flight school and flew B52 bombers. James retired in 1969. Following his retirement from the Air Force he worked for the State of Louisiana as a Livestock Inspector and retired for a second time in 1990.
In his free time James was a Mason and member of the Temple Lodge and El Karubah Shrine Arab Unit and Golf Unit. He enjoyed riding in parades and attending all of their local events. He worked the Shrine Circus for many years, helping to raise money for the El Karubah Shrine, whose main philanthropic endeavor was the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children, now known as Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. He was an avid golfer until the age of 91 and enjoyed spending time on the golf course with his golfing buddies, as well as his stepsons, Jim Coleman and Rod Coleman. He attended many of his high school reunions throughout the years.
He built the family home in Haughton around 1972 and on that property he raised quarter horses, cattle and hogs. The family farm is still enjoyed today by both Jimmy and Debbie, as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family friends.
One of James’ proudest accomplishments was putting his daughter, Debbie, and son, Jimmy, through college, making sure they did not have to work while attending school and would not owe any student debt upon graduating. He taught them the value of hard work from a very young age, and they both credit him with their strong work ethic to this day.
James joins in Heaven his parents, C.E. Hall and Fay Rice Hall; sisters Gladys Terry and Nelda Roan; and previous spouses Matie C. Hall and Lillian R. Hall.
