James was born on April 11, 1934 in Sardis, MS to Lloyd and Evelyn Joiner. James enlisted in the US ARMY, and deployed during the Korean War. His final rank was Sergeant.
When James returned home, he and Sandra Peppers were married in 1963. They graduated in different years from Pope High School in Pope, MS.
James coached many of his kids baseball teams and to this day, keeps his plaques on the wall.
He retired from Ashgrove Cement Corporation after 50 plus years.
He was an avid fisherman and spent much of his life on the lake, in his boat, fixing his boat or making plans to go fishing in the boat. He always loved a fish fry and did it weekly for his friends and family for many years. He would often send his daughter to take a fishplate to neighbors. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, OLE MISS, watching many sports, and tinkering around the yard. James kept a large garden for many years. He was never one to sit still.
James kept his grandchildren when they were little while his daughter worked as a schoolteacher. He often took them back and forth to school. His great granddaughter, Janey Grace, was born on his birthday. His favorite birthday gift ever!
He loved animals, especially his beloved Theo that went to heaven many years ago.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Scott Joiner, parents and five siblings.
James is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sandra Joiner; daughter, Julie Joiner; son, Dean Joiner and wife Margie; grandchildren, Regan Digilormo, Ainsley Digilormo, Jamie Joiner and great granddaughter, Janey Grace Joiner; sister, Shirley Alexander, brother, Bill Joiner and many nieces and nephews.
He and his family want to thank Passages Hospice, Dr. Koticha and the many medical personnel that cared for him these past few years.
