

Dr. Walczyk dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge and the betterment of others through education. He served as a professor of psychology at Louisiana Tech University, where he was a respected member of the faculty for nearly three decades. His research in cognitive psychology, deception, reading comprehension, and information processing made significant contributions to his field and influenced scholars around the world.
Jeff was a 1978 graduate of Paul V. Moore High School, Central Square, NY. He completed his undergraduate degree at Le Moyne College in 1983 and pursued his graduate and doctoral studies at Syracuse University, laying the foundation for his long and distinguished academic career.
He earned a reputation not only for his academic rigor but also for his deep compassion, wry sense of humor, and unwavering support for his students and colleagues. Dr. Walczyk inspired countless undergraduate and graduate students with his intellect, curiosity, and commitment to ethical scholarship.
Beyond academia, He found joy in quiet moments at home, reading widely, engaging in thoughtful conversation, and taking long walks outdoors. His gentle presence and kind spirit left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was a devoted husband and is survived by his wife, Barbara Walczyk; his mother, Eugenia Walczyk; and his siblings, Robert S. Walczyk Jr., Claire M. Cotty, Donald J. Walczyk, Karen W. Prescott, and Dr. Daniel F. Walczyk, along with their spouses and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert S. Walczyk. He is additionally survived by his stepchildren and their spouses: Danielle and Caleb Brown, Stephanie and AJ Parry, Derek and Abby Axelson, along with Jacob Page. His grandchildren: Bennett, Clara and Laurel Brown, Malikia and Zoe Parry, loved him dearly.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 9:30 AM at The Parish of Divine Mercy, 592 South Main St., Central Square, NY 13036. Immediately following the Mass, interment will take place at Pine Plains Cemetery, 8686 Henry Clay Blvd., Clay, NY. A memorial service will be held in Ruston, Louisiana, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions go to support scholarship funding at Louisiana Tech University.
