John Davis “Dave” Godfrey, lll, was born on July 19,1946 in Boston, MA to John D. Godfrey, Jr. and Allegra Hurley Godfrey and passed away surrounded by friends and family on Friday, May 25, 2018 at the age of 71. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1969 with a Degree in Business Administration, followed by an MBA from Louisiana Tech in 1985.
Dave entered the Air Force in 1970 obtaining his flight status in 1971. While serving in the Air Force, Dave flew T-37’s as an Instructor Pilot, was Senior Director for the AF radar station in Thailand, Flight Commander in T-38 jet aircraft, Aircraft Com¬mander for KC-135 jet tankers, Squadron Commander for Mission Support Squadron and Vice Group Commander for the 917th Wing at Barksdale AFB. He retired from the USAF in May 1998 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
After proudly serving his country for 27 years, Dave worked in the bank¬ing industry for 13 years. ln 1998, he moved to Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center where he fulfilled the role of Business Manager for Pharmacology & Pathology. Dave retired from LSUHSC in July 2009.
Residing in Shreveport/Bossier for over 40 years, Dave was an active member of the community. Among the many organizations he served, Dave volunteered for the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Posse served as Vice President of the local Reserve Officers Association, Director of the Broadmoor Optimist Club, and Treasurer & member of the Finance Committee for St. Pius X Church and School Board. He also worked with the Downtown Development Authority and the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce on Fund Drives and Membership Campaigns.
Dave Godfrey was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Diana Lynn Godfrey; daughters Monica God¬frey Rogers; Laura Godfrey Bass and husband Robert Bass; grandchildren Matthew Wilson, Lauren Godfrey, Grace Bass, and Trey Bass; sister Judith Sanderson of Port Salerno, FL; brother Chris Godfrey and wife Catherine Cash of Norcross, GA; and Mollie, his beloved yellow lab.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Willis-Knighton Bossier, LSU Medical Center SICU, and Promise Hospital of Louisiana, Bossier City, for their loving care and support.
Visitation will be held 12 PM , Friday, June 1, 2018 at St. Jude Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 PM. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park in Haughton, LA.
