A memorial visitation will be held to celebrate his life between 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, March 8, 2024 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. A celebration of life will begin at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at the Smith residence, all potluck dishes are welcomed.
Johnnie joined the Air Force after graduation and served from 1964-1968. He began a career in civil service where he remained until his retirement in 2013. He enjoyed working in his yard in any capacity, especially mowing and planting vegetable gardens. Johnnie loved going fishing and eating fried catfish. His favorite time spent was with family, he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and E.L. Smith; sister, Edith Smith Carroll; brothers, Tommy Smith, Danny Smith and nephew, Jody Smith.
Johnnie is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Pamela Smith; daughter, Serena Smith Cowell (Richard); sons, Jeremy Smith and Brad Smith; grandchildren, Erin C. Doyle and Ayden Cowell (Lucian Phillips); great grandchildren, Claudia, Elias and Levi Doyle; sister-in-law, Linda Smith; numerous nieces, nephews and dear friend, Katherine Sullivan.
The family would like to thank Pathway Rehab (Ke and Sierra), Willis Knighton Pierremont and Willis Knighton Bossier (nurses and techs), Cornerstone Hospital, Riverview Care Center, Intensive Specialty ISH (Kim, Pat and Stacey), Center Well Health Care (Randela, Amy, Brittney) and Lifepath Hospice (Autumn, Jennifer, Tara, Mrs. Earnestine and Ellen). With a special thanks to the 2nd Civil Engineer Squadron family.
