Loretta Dawn Kirkendall, age 78 of Haughton, Louisiana, passed from this earth in the presence of her Lord on February 8, 2025. She was born at home in Braytown, Indiana on September 21, 1946. She was the youngest child of the late Albert Sidney and Myrtle Alanta Carter. She attended school in Vevay, Switzerland County, Indiana. She resided in Braytown with her parents until she married Vic Kirkendall on December 18, 1965. She accompanied him on various Air Force assignments for thirty years until they eventually settled in Haughton, Louisiana. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She enjoyed plants and gardening and worked as a florist at different locations. She also loved her dogs and treated them as family members.
Loretta Dawn is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Clarence Victor "Vic" Kirkendall of Haughton, Louisiana; daughters, Vicki Dawn Kirkendall of Vivian, Louisiana, Andrea Michelle Kirkendall of Shreveport, Louisiana; grandchildren, Allison Kate Kirkendall, Luke J. Seaton, Isaac Victor Seaton, and Zachary Andrew Kirkendall; great grandchildren, Carter Reid Kirkendall and Kamryn Dawn Kirkendall and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Sidney Carter, died January 14,1977; her mother, Myrtle Alanta Carter, died January 26, 1966; her sister, Alma Jean Rayles, died May 11, 1980; her sister, Wilma Lucille "Bill" Carter, died March 25, 1997; and brother, Albert Russell "Rusty" Carter, died April 26, 2024.
Care and arrangements are entrusted to Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home of Haughton, Louisiana. Visitation will be held Thursday evening, February 13, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted by Romnie Hellen Scott at 3:30 PM, Friday, February 14, 2025, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. Private family interment will be held in N.W. Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Loretta's primary care physician, Dr. Leslie Sewell, who cared for Loretta for many years. They would also like to thank the staff of N.W. Louisiana War Vets Home including the caregivers of Wing 4; along with the Bristol Hospice staff, Jessica, Amy, Felicia, Richard, Chassidy and Chaplain Randy Goudeau.
