Margrette was born on July 8, 1938 to Henry W. Davis and Milba C. Davis in Hall Summit, Louisiana. After graduating from high school, she went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Northwestern State University in 1961 and began her career at Confederate Hospital (Ochsner’s) as Head Nurse of Internal Medical Services.
Margrette was a caring spirit and her generous heart could be felt by anyone she came in contact with. She had a special gift of not only seeing the good in people, but bringing out the best in them as well. She used her selfless gifts of compassion and dignity to faithfully serve her patients for over 34 years and 26 of those years at Schumpert Hospital where she served as Administrative Nursing Supervisor, Head Nurse of Rehab, Neurology and opened the Oncology Unit.
Margrette married Arthur L. Wood. The two enjoyed dinners with friends, their spoiled fur babies, ice cream, movies and extensive traveling in their time together.
Margrette was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Milba Davis; husband, Arthur L. Wood; sisters, Virginia Adams and Dorothy Kellar; son-in-law, Joe Markoch;, daughter-in-law, Paige Adams; and grandson-in-law, Daniel Waters.
Left to cherish Margrette’s life are her children, Susan Gray (Richard) and Anthony Martin; brother, Reverend Billy Davis (Betty); grandchildren, Jessica Waters and Matthew Long (Christian); step-sons, Arthur Wood (Shelley), Ricky Adams (Page) and Doug Adams; step-daughters, Debbie Pierce (Leonard), Susanna Markoch and Lynn Guin; great grandson, Elias Waters, as well as host of step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Reverend Terrell Giddens and Reverend Billy Davis will officiate. Visitation will be held for family on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home and visitation with friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. immediately following visitation.
Pallbearers will be Joe Giddens, Gary Giddens, Tony Davis, Bill Davis, Ricky Adams, Doug Adams, and Len Pierce.
The family would like to thank the staff at Willis Knighton Home Health, the staff at The Carpenter House, special friend Ranisha Sepulvado, and Dr. Cody Tingle.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s or the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home. The family also asks you do a kind and selfless deed for a stranger or someone in need in Margrette’s memory.
