Mr. Shoemake served his country in the U.S. Air Force and retired as TSgt. He also retired from the U.S. Postal Service, Bossier City, after ten years of faithful employment. Marvin always made himself available and served in several civic organizations including The American Legion Post 14, Northgate VFW, and was a member of The 40 and 8, serving as Chef De Gare from 2011 – 2012. In addition to all of his civic responsibilities, Marvin enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Marvin is preceded in death by his daughter, Marlene Shoemake; granddaughter, Heather Ann Shoemake; parents, Jesse and Velma Shoemake; brothers, Gerald and Kenneth Shoemake; and sister, Mary Margaret Neff. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Janice S. Shoemake; son, Marvin D. “Rusty” Shoemake, Jr. and wife Mary Jo; daughter, Cheryl Frazier and husband Dave; grandsons, Gregory Shoemake, Colin Shoemake, and Jason Arnold and wife Christina; and great-granddaughter, MaKayla Gwen Smith.
Pallbearers will be members of the Barksdale Air Force Base Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers are Dave Frazier, Greg Shoemake, Colin Shoemake, Jason Arnold, and Leonard Koglin.
