

SHREVEPORT, LA – Maxine Alexander Jenkins, 87, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2013. She was born in Simsboro, LA on March 3, 1926 and was raised in the Simsboro, Ruston, Shreveport area. Maxine graduated from Byrd High School in 1943 and then attended Highland School of Nursing where she graduated in 1946. Afterwards, she did post graduate studies in Obstetrics at the University of Chicago. Maxine was also a member of Broadmoor Methodist Church.
Maxine was the daughter of Howard Columbus Alexander and Eunice Liner Alexander. She was one of eight children. She married Milton T. Jenkins Jr. on May 28, 1948 and delivered two sons, Gary and Wayne.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Milton; brothers, Glen, Jack, and Dick; sisters, Dorothy, Evelynn, Ruth and Virginia; and son, Wayne Jenkins. Also preceding Maxine was her dear friend, Joe Brocato.
Maxine is survived by her son, Gary T. Jenkins and his wife, Jane Isler (Wojecki) Jenkins of The Woodlands, TX; her daughter-in-law, Lynn Cardwell Jenkins of New Orleans, LA; and three grandchildren, Douglas M. Jenkins of New Orleans, Rebecca L. Jenkins of New Orleans, and Wendy E. Jenkins of Seattle, WA.
Visitation will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, December 8, 2013, from 3-5 p.m.
