Michael Carroll Barnes passed away peacefully at his home in Bossier City, Louisiana, on March 13, 2026, at the age of 75. He was born on February 24, 1951, in Ruston, Louisiana, to Lillie Belle and Guy Barnes, Sr.
He graduated from Ruston High School in 1969, where he was the captain of the football team and made the All-Star baseball team as the youngest catcher in school history. To many who knew him growing up, he was affectionately known as “Skinny.” He later furthered his education by earning an associate’s degree from Louisiana Tech University.
In 1983, he and his family moved to Bossier City, Louisiana, where he began his career in the bread business. Soon after, he started his own company, Barnes Distributing, which he proudly owned and operated for 42 years before retiring.
Mike was known for his sense of humor, his love of music, and the time he spent fishing with lifelong friends and his son-in-law, Phillip. You could often find him in the kitchen trying out new recipes or relaxing by his pool. He also had a deep love for sports, especially cheering on the LSU Tigers, the New Orleans Saints, and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
He cherished time spent with his family and found his greatest joy in being surrounded by those he loved. Mike was a man of strong faith and a believer in God.
He was greeted in Heaven by his wife, Carol Ann Barnes; his parents, Guy and Belle Barnes; his brother, Donald Mett Carroll; and his sister, Vivian Elaine Kirby.
He is survived by his four daughters: Wendy Daniels and husband Phillip; Kami Barnes; Lori Hatcher; and Carie Barnes; three stepsons: Greg Peterson and wife Dana; Creighton Cathey and wife Kelly; and Casey Cathey and wife Erin; his sister, Linda Wright and husband Bill; and his brothers, Guy Barnes, Jr. and wife Faye, and Chuck Barnes and wife April, along with many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, the family will host a Celebration of Life.
Mike will be deeply missed, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
