A memorial service celebrating Nancy’s life will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, with Reverend Kelly Berne and Miles Holladay officiating. Burial will follow at Harmony Chapel United Methodist Church in Dubach, Louisiana, where Nancy will be laid to rest.
Nancy was born on November 24, 1944, in Ruston, Louisiana, to Melvin and Oneta Hood. She grew up alongside her beloved sister, Susan, traveling throughout the country as her father faithfully served in the United States Air Force. After graduating from Bossier High School, Nancy enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where she met the love of her life, Jim Strauss, while both were stationed in Ohio.
Nancy and Jim raised their three sons—Jimmy, Jerry, and Jeff—while living around the world during Jim’s military career. In 1984, the family returned to Bossier City following Jim’s retirement from the military. Nancy was deeply rooted in her faith and raised her family in the Methodist Church, worshiping at Curtis Park, St. Stephen’s, and Asbury United Methodist Church, where she was a charter member.
Above all else, Nancy loved her family. She was immensely proud of her sons, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Omi.” An avid reader, Nancy also found joy and peace in the art of cross-stitch, patiently creating beautiful masterpieces.
Nancy is survived by her son, Jerry Strauss, and grandson, Chris Strauss; her son, Jeff Strauss, and wife, Shelly Dyer Strauss, and their children, Drew, Cooper, and Remi; her sister, Susan Carmichael, and husband, John Carmichael III; her niece, Kristy Carmichael Coast, and husband, John Stewart Coast, and their daughters, Maggie Coast Godbery and husband, Reed Godbery and Molly Coast; and her nephew, John Carmichael IV, and husband, Louis Guerra. She also leaves behind a wide circle of extended family and friends throughout Bossier and Lincoln Parishes.
Nancy’s life was a testament to love, faith, and family. She touched countless hearts with her kindness, warmth, and unwavering strength. Her legacy lives on in the memories of all who knew and loved her.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at The Blake at Bossier City, where Nancy resided since 2023, as well as the compassionate caregivers from Passages Hospice and Professional Sitters Services, whose dedication and kindness provided exceptional care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church.
