Funeral services for Nell Gilbert Harlan will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 28th at First Baptist Church of Haughton with Dr. Gevan Spinney officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 27th from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.
Nell was born in Hortman, LA on July 27, 1933 to the late Arthur Preston and Edna Matthews Gilbert. She grew up in Minden, LA and was a proud 1951 graduate of Minden High School. She retired from Bossier Parish Schools after serving as secretary at Platt and T.L. Rodes Elementary Schools. Nell loved to cook and enjoyed sharing her pies, brownies, and goodies with her family and friends. She enjoyed sports and was a loyal Haughton Buccaneer fan since 1957 when she married Coach Harold Harlan. She was kind, caring, and had a smile that would light up a room.
Survivors include a daughter, FaLu and her husband Van; a son Hal and his wife Debra; and grandchildren: Hunter Harlan and wife Madison and their son Kase, Jackson Harlan, Holden Gilmore, Ashlyn Gilmore, and Carson Gilmore and many adored nieces and nephews. Nell was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Harold Harlan, and a son, Gil Harlan, 5 brothers: Horace Gilbert, Harold Gilbert, Huies Gilbert, James (Buddy) Gilbert, and Byron (Tap) Gilbert and 4 sisters: Elizabeth Ambrose, Helen Sanders, Kathryn Thomas, and Ysleta Kranz.
Pallbearers will be Andy Gilbert, Rusty Gilbert, Huies Gilbert, Gil Harrison, Kenneth Weaver, Andy Lowrie, Jason Brotherton, and Gene Couvillion.
