“Gene”
BENTON, LA – Gene was born on July 11, 1935, in Bronaugh, MO to parents, Owen and Goldie (Bowen) Bales, and passed away on the afternoon of December 12, 2013.
Gene was a carpenter by trade and a member of the Kansas City Missouri Carpenters Union #77. He loved to fish, play his guitar, and listen to country music. Gene was an avid football fan and ALWAYS rooted for The Kansas City Chiefs and The New Orleans Saints. As Gene matured, so did his love and knowledge of politics. He was able to discuss everything from our local government to everyone and everything in Washington D.C. CNN didn’t have anything on Gene!
Gene was preceded in death by his son, Martin; and his parents. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 26 years, Sharon (Nichols) Bales; son, Monty Bales of Baltimore, MD; daughter, Melaney Verran and husband, David of Benton, LA; granddaughters, Madison Verran and Cassidy Carlson Mendel; and great-granddaughter, Lily Mendel.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Willis Knighton Hospice or Grace Home of Shreveport.
