Born on September 7th, 1944, in Pryor, OK, to Charles and Elizabeth (Moss) Walburn, Ron graduated from high school and went on to proudly serve in the United States Air Force for 28 years. His service to his country was a point of deep pride and commitment.
Ron had a true passion for home projects. Throughout his retirement, he made several improvements to their home, with the last being a particularly meaningful project: a new, towering flagpole to proudly display the American flag in his backyard. To Ron, the flag represented much more than just red, white, and blue fabric—it was a symbol of the sacrifices made to ensure the greatness of the United States.
Along with his love for home improvements, Ron was also an avid golfer. Though his schedule didn’t always allow for frequent play, he eagerly looked forward to family reunions where he could spend an entire week playing golf with his brothers-in-law.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Hazel Walburn, and his brother, Tommy Walburn. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Sandra Kay Walburn, his brother Charles Walburn, and their two children: Rhonda Walburn Oar (Rodney) and Bradley Walburn (Mollie). His cherished grandchildren include Lindsay Galloway, Brandon Walburn, Dakota Walburn, Laura Oar, Zachary Walburn, William Robichaux, Benjamin Robichaux, and Jonathan Robichaux. Ron also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy as he watched them grow.
The family would like to express special gratitude to Ron’s best friend, Bud Cherry, for always being there for him. Their morning coffee sessions were a cherished part of Ron’s daily routine. We also want to thank Aunt Carlotta Rider, Ron’s sister-in-law, who was more like a sister to him. Carlotta’s unwavering support through Ron’s health journey meant the world to the family. A heartfelt thank you goes to Chaplain Sam from St. Joseph Hospice, Keith Fontenot, and Al Oar for their prayers and support. Above all, the family is deeply grateful to Peyton Gray, RN with St. Joseph Hospice, whose professionalism and guidance helped the family through Ron’s final days.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
