Private funeral services for family only, due to COVID-19 restrictions, celebrating the life of Mrs. Ruth Lilley Dooley, 84, will be Monday, July 6, 2020 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel, with Bro. Donald Francis of Eastwood Baptist Church officiating. Entombment will be in Hill Crest Memorial Mausoleum.
Ruth was born Thursday, February 13, 1936 in Sabine Parish, LA and passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2020, in Shreveport after a brief illness.
Ruth was raised in Pleasant Hill, LA in a large family to include numerous aunts and uncles. Ruth accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young girl and served him faithfully her entire life. Ruth was instrumental in leading others to Christ, and she led by example in her daily Bible reading and journaling. Ruth was a member of Airline Baptist Church, in Bossier City and was very active with her Sunday School class.
Ruth was a typical Southern Lady. When you went to her house, she always wanted to feed you, asking you multiple times “Can I get you something to eat.” She was hospitable and cheerfully welcomed visitors into their home. She was an inside person who claimed “Ladies do not sweat”. One of Ruth’s favorite stories was the time when her Father said “Ruth, can you not burn the biscuits so bad the next time,” but she could make a great coconut cake and delicious apple salad.
Ruth married Vol Dooley in May of 1986 and they shared 28 years serving the Lord together.
She was a Deputy Sheriff for 18 years with the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Department, retiring from there in 1988.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents James and Lucille (Greer) Lilley, her husband Vol S. Dooley, Jr., sisters LaJoice Wilden, Helen McDonald, and Carolyn Nichols, brother James Lilley, daughter Carol DeEtte Brown, and step son Vol S. Dooley, III.
Left to cherish her memory are: sons, Autry Brown and wife Carole, Dennis Brown and wife Gina, Ricky Brown and wife Kim, Steve Dooley and wife Teresa, Mike Dooley and wife Donna; daughter, Patricia Dooley Netherland and husband Charlie, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, other family members, and a host of friends.
"She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all."
