She was always there for me and always worrying about me...silly lady.  I could always go home to her...I'll miss her.  Love you Mom.

Nan was always the definition of a strong & independent woman to me. She made such an amazing impact on my life and was ALWAYS there when I needed her. I’ll forever remember her sitting there in her favorite chair- sipping some homemade tea out of a mug- and asking me about my life and telling me stories of her AMAZING past times as a little girl that will forever be passed down through generations through all of our family. She was our rock. She was such an extraordinary woman and grand mother to have in my life. She took us to zoos and to the movies and the memories go on and on. Christmas was always fun because of her as well. We love you and miss you so much and always will.  XOXOXO.  Rest In Peace Nan. 

Nan was the best omelette and sandwich maker around.  Manners and wearing your seatbelt were a must.  Especially if you ever rode with her.  She would come to almost all my games and scream run run run run it was her way of showing support.  She taught me how to start and maintain a flowerbed. To this day I still use her techniques.  My kids and wife Ashley loved Nan because she always took time out for everyone.   We all know shes in a better place maybe even meeting Alex trebek the host of her favorite show jeperody.  We love you Nan!!!!!!!!

There are too many incredible moments - I could write a book. To the woman to taught me how to be a lady, my shoulder I could always cry on, the best advice-giver and story teller, the one who taught me to never rely on a man - to get my bachelor's degree (at least) - I love you more than words can say. The one who taught me to write my "N"s the correct way in grade-school, to not bite my nails, to sit up straight, and never let anyone bring you down. My best friend through high school and the reason I didn't get into the "gifted" program in Elementary School because I continually told the person administering the test that I lived with my Nan even though it wasn't true. I just wanted it to be true. The one who took me under her wing when I had a broken heart to the times we would sit at the kitchen counter and would tell me all the stories of your childhood for hours and hours. I will miss you more than you know - because you are the reason I am who I am today. Thank you, Nan, for everything. Because without you... I wouldn't be me. 

I put off writing this because I knew it would be hard to find the words...even though there are so many. My Nan taught me so much during those summers my sister and I would spend with her. I learned how to properly make a bed at her house (because Lord knows I never made my bed at my house!) - and it was done daily while we were there! We were certainly never allowed to leave a wet pool towel on the floor-they were hung out on the line to dry, and in her house, we always picked up after ourselves. To this day, I think of her every time I make a "hospital corner" with my sheets.  

Her home inspired creativity in us, we would take giant square floor pillows and turn them into anything we could imagine; forts, theme park rides, slides. She taught me how to knit and make teddybear hats. She would take us to the library to checkout books and I would plow through them; to this day I still love reading. She would take us on trips and did everything she could to make the most of the time we spent with her. 

Her home was full of laughter, joy and amazing food. I remember the feeling of excitement I would get as we would first drive up to her house in our big blue van. She gave the BEST hugs and I will always remember the sound of her voice and its unique British accent with a twist of southern twang as she welcomed us. The whole family would be there when we arrived - aunts, uncles, cousins...all hanging out, swimming in the pool, simply spending time together. We ate the most amazing meals and for dessert there was always pie or those individual-serving vanilla ice cream cups (and if you wanted chocolate ice cream, then you better just drizzle on the chocolate syrup). 

Even though she would always send us off with our own bags of candy for the drive, I was always sad to leave her house those summers. 

I have so many more special memories, the best times of my childhood all involve her and I am so blessed to be able to hold onto them.

How incredibly strong my Nan was is something I will never forget. Her drive and love for her family never went unnoticed. I always said she was the glue that held the family together. Every Christmas she would have the entire family come together, and we would eat her amazing cooking, listen to her intriguing life stories, and spend quality time together. She used to take me and her other grandchildren to Tyler Zoo, bowling, the movie theatre, swimming, Blockbuster and so many other places.

She made it a point to be present in my life and to make long lasting memories. She taught me the importance of respecting others, being polite, using manners, and always trying my best with anything I do in life. I still can’t believe she is gone, but I’m grateful for the footprints she left on my heart. I love and miss you Nan. RIP. 

My fondest memories of Auntie Thelma are reminiscing about family & 'old times'. Manor Farm Public House, Norwich, England during WW2 when, as a child, with her family, running to the air raid shelter when the sirens sounded. Highfield House in Brundall, Norwich (See Photo) where, with my American cousins, we had so much fun in the large gardens, not always on our best behaviour! Linda, Rachael, Daniel and myself spent many happy times at Shreveport & Bossier. Always welcome & nothing was too much trouble for Auntie to make our holidays special. I visited Auntie on my own in 2012. We talked about everything, visited places & I met a number of her friends. Cilla was good company too. Across the thousands of miles there was always a deep love between her and her UK family. Always strong willed, active and larger than life. A great host & company. We will miss you Auntie, but never forget you. Lots of Love, Richard, Linda, Rachael & Daniel xx

The best memories that I have of Nan are the ones when I was a child. She taught me to love reading and I would always beg for her to read me a story from her fairy tale books.  She made the best french toast, grilled cheese and strawberry shortcake. I will always cherish the memories of the trips she took me on, especially our trip to New York. When I look back I am amazed that she never thought twice about loading Mandy, Kim, my brother and myself up and heading out on an adventure...Eureka Springs! 

My entire life she has been one of my biggest cheerleaders and she always reminded me to never give up. If it was important to me than it was important to her and she always showed up to support me. She loved my children the same way she loved me and they adored her. My kids would love to stop by and play with Nan, because she was never to old to get down on the floor and play with a child.  She always had our favorite treats waiting on us for whenever we might show up and was the only one that could find Hudson's favorite cookies. She always had the right words at the right time; even if she was sucking confetti out of my grass at six in the morning. She is one of the strongest women I have ever known and serving her family was one of her greatest joys.

I am extremely blessed by the 39 years I had with my Nan and I will continue to find her strength in every thing that I do.

All of our long walks together in the country during the different seasons through the years. 
One was when it snowed and mom said to me "my woman let’s bundle up and go for a walk in the snow." We went on that walk on the power line behind the house. When we got to the hill, mom said to me let’s make snow angles, we made our snow angles and had the best time and so much fun. 

Weekends and Sunday dinners were the best! That’s when I learned to cook the best English Dinners to continue the tradition for my family. 

Working in the yard with her and planting our favorite flowers. When finished we would have a cup of tea and admire the work and all the flowers we had planted. 

Going places together, that was always a pleasure and a memory made. We would go out to the base together sometime. Their was one time she said you will drive on base today. I said mom I have never driven on base! She said my woman you will do fine I will guide you, but just  don’t go over the speed limit are we will get a ticket. We had so much fun and a lot of laughs. Their were no tickets! 

All the times we were with her and watching her with Kyle playing and laughing with him! She loved him so much!

Christmas was always the best and most memorable it will be missed so very much but all the memories and love from her will be forever keep with me and in my heart. Mom you are and will always be with me and in my Heart every Christmas.

There were many days she would ask me over for lunch and tea to share memories and talk about  different things. It was such a pleasure to sit with her and listen to her, we never ran out of things to talk about. We would buy each other little things like our tea time mystery books that we enjoyed so much.  

You always had so much love to give and so much wisdom to share, you always and forever will be with me and as you said, I will always be your daughter-in-law and you will never be forgotten.

I'm finding it quite difficult to come up with one memory as my Nan is woven into the fiber of my childhood.  She was more than just a person but rather a sensory experience that made an indelible mark on my life.  I can still recall the smell of her *always* clean house, the taste of her perfectly sweet yet perfectly tart cherry pies, the sound of her unique blend of English and Louisiana-southern accents (surely she was unique in saying "yonder" in an English accent), and the way her face lit up whenever her grandchildren were around. 

She was there for all of the big moments in my life like graduations and my wedding.  She even helped me learn how to drive which was the mark of an obviously brave woman. Nan took me on the trip of a lifetime to Australia, and I will be forever grateful not just for the experience but for the time we got to spend together.  Nan was present for all of the major milestones, but her lessons and influence were a constant in my everyday life. She was a wonderful grandmother, and I miss her so very much.

The best memories I have are the wonderful Christmases I spent at her home. She always welcomed us joyfully even though I know she had spent many days preparing for the onslaught of overnight guests and multiple Hudson families that came for Christmas each year. 
She prepared delicious dinners of Roast Beef, Yorkshire puddings, Roast potatoes and many other dishes for our feast. It had to be hard to cook for so many people but she never complained and was always smiling and entertaining. She loved her family very much and it was reciprocated by everyone. 
I miss those fun times and when I’m looking back at my life I always sigh and think what a wonderful and special person Nan, Mom, Thelma-whatever you called her was.  I had the utmost respect and love for this woman that was a huge part of my life for more than 30 years. May she Rest In Peace.


Thelma was a regular rosedale lunch bunch member for years and will surely be missed.  My granddaughter remembers her for her good chocolate chip cookies.  For a birthday surprise for our granddaughter Thelma helped us out by sending a letter to her relative in England just to have a returned postmark from  England!!  It was suppose to be from Harry Potter!!  

Always helpful, always laughing and smiling, that's how we remember Thelma, and those memories go back over very many years - to Norwich in the post-war years, to Canterbury (UK),  to Petham (UK), when our daughter and son-in-law to be were married, and to Thorpe St Andrew (UK) in Vera and Dick's house.  A lovely lady, full of character and style.  We shall miss her very much.

So many memories and such a small space to put into one place. The time you took me to England to meet our family. The incredible sights I will never forget. The one who taught me to be a lady (and stop biting my nails). The one who would sit with me for hours at your kitchen counter telling me stories of the war and your life. The one who taught me to write my “N’s” the right way. The reason I didn’t get into the gifted program in school in Elementary because I insisted I lived with my Nan (because I wanted it to be true).  Living with you in High School was one of my favorite times in my life. You taught me so many lessons (and if I didn’t do as I was told - I would be cleaning the house at 2am - which really straightened me up as a super headstrong teenager). Snuggling up to Nan in her waterbed at night as a child because I always wanted to sleep over. The books she would read me to go to sleep. Playing Skip-Bo or Uno. Still favorites to this day.  The times in the pool at Nan’s old house and we would all sit in lawn chairs waiting for a parade to come by or to see fireworks on the 4th of July. Your special coaster maker with your name all over it done in yarn.  What I would give to go back in time to tell you “Thank you for making me who I am today” - because truly, Nan, I wouldn’t be who I am today or as strong if it wasn’t for you. You taught me to never rely on a man and to become a strong woman. To get an education and a great job. You were always pushing me to be my best. I love you. Forever and always. Eternally grateful for this last Christmas with you. You will be missed more than you know.

Thelma was a friend that I enjoyed when I went to Clyde and Penny's home. We enjoyed talking about our children and our childhoods. Clyde and Penny took us on a Mother-in-law trip one summer to Alaska and a cruise back to the United States. That summer I got to really enjoy Thelma and she told me a lot about her life in England growing up during World War II and how hard it was. Now Thelma is blessed with being with our Father in heaven. Good-bye my friend may we meet again in your new home.

When we told the girls of the sad passing of Aunt Thelma they recalled our trip when we stayed with her for Christmas and the excitement she had in showing the girls their bedroom in her bathroom and made sure that they knew if a hurricane hit they needed to head for the bathroom in the middle of the house.

We share your pain at this sad time, but have many Treasured memories of a loving sister, sister in law and Aunt, who although we lived many miles apart, we remember all the happy times spent with her on her numerous visits home to England and she will be forever in our thoughts.
