Gene, 52 of Princeton, Louisiana went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on January 7, 2016. He was born to Tommy Lee and Nanny Bell McCray on September 8, 1963 in Tampa, Florida.
Gene married the love of his life and best friend Helena Crull McCray on May 14, 1983 in Elwood, Indiana. They made Louisiana their home in 1984. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Jesica and Kayla and three wonderful grandsons, Kaden, Kameron, and Porter. Gene was a professional plumber and had a career with Berry Plumbing.
Gene was a wonderful husband, dad, and PawPaw. His family was his whole world; they were the center of his life. He had a heart of gold and he would do anything he could to help anyone in need. If he met and liked you once, you became his friend. Gene had a great sense of humor, he could make you smile when you were mad and laugh when you were sad. Gene was an avid fan and the best cheerleader for the Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team, so ROLL TIDE ROLL forever.
His wife, Helena of 32 years, two daughters, and three grandsons, three sisters, Debbie McCray of Alabama, Deresa McCray of Indiana and Tonya Gougler of Alabama two brothers Wayne McCray of Washington, and Gary McCray of Alabama, survives Gene. His mother, Tootsie, his father Tommy Lee, his paternal and maternal grandparents, preceded him in death.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Vikas Mehta and his team, Dr. Judette Polynice, the critical care nurses of SICU, and the floor nurses for their care and compassion during his extended stay at University Health.
To honor his life, services include visitation from 5-7PM on Sunday, January 10, 2016 and memorial service at 2PM on Monday, January 11, 2016 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton, Louisiana.
