Trung Hoa Kha, age 80, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, in his home in Bossier City, Louisiana, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was surrounded by love and family in his final days.
Trung was born in Saigon, Vietnam to Lap Kha and Chi Chau. The oldest of six children, Trung was known for his intelligence, quiet determination, and deep sense of responsibility. He was valedictorian of his high school and later became an herbalist, a trade he learned from his father and practiced with dedication in his community.
In 1978, after the fall of Saigon and amid great uncertainty, Trung and his wife, Muoi, made the difficult decision to leave their homeland in search of a better life for their young family. Along with their children, they fled Vietnam and spent a year in a refugee camp on Pulau Bidong, an island in Malaysia. Despite the hardships, Trung remained hopeful and steadfast, always focused on protecting and providing for his family. In 1979, the Kha family was resettled in Shreveport, Louisiana, where they began to build a new life from the ground up.
Trung worked tirelessly, often juggling multiple jobs, to support his family and give his children better opportunities. Eventually, he found his calling as a cabinet maker. With a craftsman's heart and a perfectionist’s eye, he became a master of his trade—respected for his skill and artistry. He took great pride in his work, and many of his handmade cabinets and furniture pieces are still treasured today by those lucky enough to have them.
Outside of work, Trung had a deep love for nature. He found joy in gardening and nurturing fruit trees —especially peach trees, which he often gifted to family, friends, and strangers alike. He raised chickens and goats, not just for practical reasons, but because he genuinely loved caring for animals. He was happiest in his garden or sitting in the backyard, watching his chickens roam.
Trung also had a well-known sweet tooth. From Asian pastries to American desserts, he appreciated a good treat and was lovingly referred to as the family’s unofficial “food critic.” He had an unfiltered opinion about every meal. If he liked it, you knew. If he didn’t... you definitely knew.
He was a humble, gentle, and generous man— never one to seek attention, but always the steady foundation for his family. He taught his children the values of hard work, resilience, and quiet strength, and he remained a pillar of support and wisdom throughout their lives.
Trung was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Muoi Lam Kha; his parents, Lap Kha and Chi Chau; his brother, Hi Nang Kha; and his sister, Hi Nhi Chau.
He is survived by his brothers: De Kha, Minh Kha, and Quang Kha; and his six loving children, Linh Johnson and her husband Bill, Anh Kha and her partner Pete, Dao Flaherty and her husband Wheeler, Nguyen Kha, Lien Matriano-Lim and her husband Bob and Christy Stayer and her husband Tom
He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Justin Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Owen Stayer, and Olivia Stayer—each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
The Kha family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Allegiance Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Trung’s final days. Their kindness helped ease a difficult time and will never be forgotten.
A funeral service to honor Trung’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home and Park in Haughton, Louisiana.
