Van passed away Friday, January 7, 2010 at the Grace Home in Shreveport after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dan Howell; mother, Lena Pickering Howell; and brother, Doyle Howell.

Survivors include his wife Lou Grimshaw Howell; three children, Mary Powell, Danny Howell and wife Nita; Vanessa Efferson and husband Doug; sister, Dennie Page and husband William; brother, Jack Howell; grandchildren, Shari Allen, Jason Powell, Derek Powell, Daniel Howell, Crystal Howell, Colby Howell, Seth Butcher, Samantha Walker, Hannah Efferson; five great-grandchildren, and special family member Pete Butcher.

Pallbearers were Jason Powell, Derek Powell, Seth Butcher, John Walker, Doug Efferson, and Pete Butcher.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Grace Home and Promise Hospital; and to Dr. Atilla Balogh and the many other doctors who cared for Van ,and to his very special doctor, Dr. Michael Futrell for twenty eight years of kind and devoted care.
