Leaving her earthly home Sunday, February 2, 2025, surrounded by family in Shreveport, LA after a brief sudden illness, our mother now rejoices at the feet of Jesus with her body and mind made whole. Verna was born November 14, 1937, in Lamesa, TX to Leon Brazeale Reed and Dovie Jacobs Reed. Raised and schooled in Pleasant Hill, LA, it was there she met Charles Blue and they married in 1954. They raised two sons, Charles and Eddie, and he preceded her in death in 1984.
She married Howell Dean Brown in 1985 and moved from East Texas to Haughton, LA. The marriage brought to her the addition of three bonus sons and through the years she enjoyed five sons with families full of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great- greats.
Verna made her career in service to others and worked for years for Carthage ISD cafeteria system then later for the Bossier Parish school district cafeteria system of which she retired in management.
She loved being outdoors in her flowers, working in her yard, taking road trips and being anywhere with family. Those preceding her in death are her parents; brothers, Raymond, Delman, and Bubba; sisters, Rita, Dee, and Loree; daughter-in-law, Wanda Strong Blue; granddaughter, Angela Blue Austin; spouses, Charles E. Blue and H. Dean Brown.
Her surviving family include sons, Charles D. Blue (Gilda), Eddie Blue (Lea), Autry Brown (Carol), Dennis Brown (Gina), and Rick Brown (Kim); sister, Mary Reed Thompson; brother, Phillip Reed (Jan); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews that were much loved.
Verna also leaves her Booker T. Washington Rehabilitation family and friends that have cared for her so lovingly these three plus years. A special thank you to the staff of Booker t. Washington Skilled Nursing and Bristol Hospice for their loving care.
Her grandsons/great-grandsons will be pallbearers.
