Bill lived a long happy life and passed away peacefully after finally meeting his newest great granddaughter, Aubriella. Bill loved his family and was so proud of everyone. He had four children; Robert and wife Annette, Stefani, David and Richard. He was known as Papaw to his five grandchildren; Ashleigh, Matthew, Christina, Cori and Michael, but his pride and joy were his eight great grandchildren; Treyson, Kurt, Chloee, Danica, Kari Jo, Lukas, Aubriella and Brooklyn. Bill is also survived by one brother; Robert and wife Jeanette in Charleston, South Carolina.
Bill was born and raised on a farm in Iowa and joined the Air Force at age 20. He proudly served his country overseas in Morocco and Madrid before being stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base. After 23 years, he retired and began working for the US Postal Service. He loved his job as a letter carrier because he got to talk with people all day. He later traded in handing out the mail to fixing the machines that sorted them at the main Post Office. After 35 years, he retired to stay home and take care of his wife.
Bill had a huge heart for service and decided to sign up with the Bossier Parish Sheriff Posse. He also joined The Lions Club.
Bill loved sports, especially watching his grandchildren compete. Papaw never missed an event or competition; they were his pride and joy. He loved when someone mentioned them because that meant he could brag about each one of them. He loved the holidays because he had a house full of children.
Bill was also a member of Cypress Baptist Church. He loved his church family and attending the Senior Adult events with his granddaughter Cori. When you would ask him what his favorite was, he’d say, “the ones we ate at”. His real favorite was Adult VBS.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Bill at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, on Friday, July 15, 2022, at 10:00 A.M., officiated by Bro. Tommy Patton of Cypress Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive guests on Thursday evening from 5-7 P.M. in the Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
Pallbearers are Bayne Lee, Bobby Wharton, Ed Weiland, Brent Blackwell, Ty Brian, and Randy Caudle.
Honorary Pallbearers are Michael Newberry, Matthew Newberry, Kelvin Queliz, Michael Joyner, Treyson Joyner and Jason Tipton.
