Frances Yvonne Thompson (known by all as Yvonne) was born in Fryeburg, Louisiana on September 29, 1923 to Benjamin Alice Madden and Eula Bailiff Madden. She was an only child, but she had numerous cousins who were more like siblings and were very dear to her and they remained close in friendship.
She began life in the Madden community of Fryeburg, Louisiana. She met her sweetheart Daulton Thompson and they married on February 14, 1946. They were married for 46 years before Daulton went home to be with the Lord. After marrying, they moved from the East to West coast as Daulton served in the US Navy. Her favorite and fondest time was when they were stationed in Bozeman, Montana. Even towards the end of her long life, out of everywhere she had traveled, she still said Bozeman was the prettiest place she’d ever been and held very happy memories there.
They eventually settled in Bossier City/Haughton, Louisiana. As a young adult she worked in Pathology at what became LSUMC hospital in Shreveport where she remained for 35 years total until she retired.
She was a loving and devoted mother to her 4 children– Ramona (Walter) Green, Dale (Maryann) Todd-Thompson, Kimberly (William) Norton, and Christopher (Tammy) Thompson. She was a cherished grandmother to 7 grandchildren–Damian (Lee) Green, Amigo Green, Megan Todd-Thompson, Kate (Jeff) Cronkhite, Samuel (Haylee) Norton, Brooke (Adam) Sipes, and Joshua (Jordan) Norton. She was affectionately known by most as “Nana.” She lived an incredible 101.5 years and was blessed to have known her 11 great grandchildren–Emily, Reed, Josie, Sully, Oliver, Wren, Jeriko, Owen, Heath, Lyle, and Wayne.
She affectionately loved all of her extended family and friends as well, many of whom saw her as their “Nana” also.
She shared the love of the Lord Jesus with family and friends. She had a special way of making everyone around her feel loved and welcomed. She exuded joy, light, and laughter. She was infectious. She was very involved and loved her church, First Baptist Church of Haughton, where she was a faithful member for over 45 years. She loved creating dolls in her early retirement years. She really was quite the business woman over the years with ABWA, on the board of the Madden Cemetery, and helped set up a family business as well. She loved having fun and she was known as a card/game shark and won most of the games she played. As she aged, she embraced technology and effectively kept in touch with family and friends on social media and through texting and facetimes.
Yvonne is, amazingly, survived by all 4 of her children (minus Darling, her stillborn daughter), all 7 grandchildren, and all 11 great-grandchildren. She left a legacy that will last generations.
Her favorite hymn was “How Great Thou Art”. The children all remember Daulton (Pops) singing it when they would drive over the Colorado Rockies. Yvonne said he would sing that hymn on all of their vacations. She loved to travel, to adventure new places, and she continued that adventurous spirit for life and travel all the way to the end.
She passed away peacefully and entered into glory on May 17, 2025.
When someone commented on how loving she was, she said recently, “Well, I always thought we are to love everyone!” May we all carry that with us!
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His faithful servants.” -Psalm 116:15
