

Born Barbara Ann Goldowsky on February 24, 1948, in Port Chester, New York, "Goldie," as she was affectionately known, was the daughter of Solomon Goldowsky and Mildred Dickman. She was predeceased by her parents.
She grew up on Poningo Street and West Glen Avenue with her parents and sister, Roberta. Barbara attended Westchester Community College before marrying Stephen B. Hacker of New Rochelle in 1967. The couple had two daughters, Debra and Sandra, and later divorced in 1974.
Barbara raised her daughters at Crestwood Lake Garden Apartments in Yonkers while working first as a dental assistant and later for an insurance agency.
In 1981, Barbara married Dov Hering, a welder who had immigrated from Israel. Dov had two daughters, Danielle and Michele. The blended family lived together in a two-bedroom
apartment before moving to Mahopac, New York.
Barbara joined Verizon as a customer service representative, where she became one of the top sales representatives. She retired after 30 years of dedicated service. While working full-time and raising four daughters, Barbara completed her associate degree at Westchester Community College. She later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Lehman College and pursued a master's degree in Human Resource Management at Mercy University.
Over the years, Barbara and Dov lived in Fleetwood, Scarsdale, and Hartsdale, New York. Together they enjoyed entrepreneurial ventures, including selling gold jewelry and investing in real estate.
Barbara played the clarinet in the Port Chester High School Marching Band and was an accomplished Mah Jongg player, earning the respect of fellow players. She loved shopping, reading, Broadway shows, and crocheting. Above all, her family was her greatest pride and joy.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Debra Garbus (Joseph Garbus) and Sandra Hacker; her stepdaughters, Danielle Monahan (John Monahan) and Michele Hering; her grandchildren, Jack and Samantha Garbus and Mariah Monahan; her sister, Roberta Katz (Richard Katz); and her many nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Dov Hering.
