Hi Michael and Richard,

Sorry to hear the news of your Mother's passing.  She was a fine lady.  Although it has been many years I still hold my Larchmont Acres memories including your family fondly.  

Remember, people who touch our hearts stay with us forever.

My mother Florence Katz, defined  the world unselfish.  She always rejoiced in the good news and happenings  of  others as if it was happening to her. She deeply  cared for other people  with one of her most wonderful acts  being the befriending of a family that moved into our building about 5 years ago. Alone, lived  in Peru  prior  to their journey to the states, mom connected  with mother Roxanna and their  young girls Carolina  & Christina,  eventually forming a family like bond that  had them viewing Florence as their surrogate grandma. She helped make a life for them here, through her love and support  of them, with Joel playing a major role  in their happiness also. Her love of Joel  through his cancer treatments over the summer  & right up until his death on Dec 21th was off the charts. She set up the whole treatment plan & was there for him every step of the way. I guess 52 years of marriage cements that loyalty oath. It moved the doctors to tell us they had never seen such family devotion & care. It was that love in my humble opinion  that caused a broken heart after Joel died.  That bed was too lonely for her & made sleep & the nights a tough go.  However, whenever she met friends  or saw people in the building  she smiled , spread joy  & never put that pain onto others. In closing what person would give a gift  to her dentist in appreciation for her soon to be completed  dental work. That's who Florence Katz was. Rest in peace  Mom, Love your son Michael.

My mother Florence Katz defined the word unselfish.  She always  rejoiced in other peoples joy and good news.  She became  so close to our neighbors  who  moved here from Peru about  5 years ago that they adopted her as their American grandmother. Roxanna, Carolina & Christina  meant everything to her &  the same the other way. She helped the family make a life here after coming into a strange land with nobody but themselves. She loved her Husband  of  50 plus  years so much that when she set up all the schedules for his cancer treatments  the doctors at the hospital were so moved by the families dedication  to Joel.  That love  that was gone after he passed away  after a brave battle on Dec 21, 2013, & this is in my humble opinion,  left my mom with a broken heart.  52  years  & now no one on the other side of the bed made for lonely & sleepless nights. But she  faced each day with gusto, smiled at everyone,  did not go into a shell  & stayed in constant contact with friends, always concerned with their welfare.  I was told  by Peter Katz  the son  of  my cousin Warren Katz, Peter's dad , then when  his Mom & Dad died  about a year ago,  that  Mom was invaluable in helping  him with his grieving process.  That was who  Florence Katz was.  Amen , rest in peace Mom.
