I am missing Susan's mischievous smile when we met at the meetings of the Hungarian Studies Association. She was always a great, fun, active member of our association and she helped to create this warm, friendly atmosphere.

This is very sad news! I have met Susan at various Slavic Studies conferences where we would meet as the Hungarian Studies Association. She served for many year's as the Association's secretary. Susan was always very friendly and had a wonderful smile. I have already missed her presence in the last couple of years after she couldn't come to the conferences any longer. I wish her family and friends all the best.

Susan was my friend for the 38 years she taught at St. John's University.  I hired her in 1984 to teach Economics. She was a wonderful teacher;  incredibly patient, caring, always available to her students. When technology entered teaching, she was one of the first to embrace it, and she brought many colleagues along with her, teaching us as she did her students.  Dr. Susan Glanz  was one of the smartest people I knew; she wrote many scholarly papers about Economics and History in the US and Hungary. She also wrote about new teaching techniques she created or found in her research  to make the subject simpler for students. Susan made us and our school better. She was vital to the success of the St. John's College Europa study abroad program in Hungary;  sharing her love of Hungary with all who worked on this program. Susan loved and was tremendously proud of her husband and son.  She will be remembered and greatly missed by her colleagues.

I would like to add my voice to those with fond memories of Susan.   Mine comes from Canada where Susan had also been a helpful advisor and participant in various academic conferences and events.   In particular she took part in events organized by the Hungarian Studies Association of Canada's annual conferences - and in 2006 -7 in a special international seminar marking the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian revolution of 1956. We are sorry to lose a good friend and colleague. May her memory be a blessing to those who knew her. Judy Young from Ottawa, Canada.   

Susan was a colleague of mine from St. John’s University.  We taught at different campuses and didn’t cross paths often, but I will always be grateful for her calming presence, and for her suggestion that I join AHEA.

Susan, or Zsuzsa, was an exceptionallly caring friend and colleague to so many of us in the AHEA (American-Hungarian Educators Association) community, where I met her well over three decades ago.   She will be sorely missed.
