

Zita was born in the Bronx on April 20th, 1928 to Abraham and Anna(Kessler)Segall. She was a member of the first graduating class of Taft High School and her classmate, Edye Gorme, wrote in her yearbook "To Zita, ‘the voice’-if you don’t do something with it you’re crazy”. Zita and Edye performed together in the War Bond shows which helped raise funds in support of the Allied efforts. Zita loved music, singing, and musical theater. As a young girl she performed on radio and through her adulthood was sought after to perform at public events. She also performed in summer stock theater notables such as Man of La Mancha. Zita earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Hunter College and thereafter became a long term substitute teacher serving in the Yonkers Public School System. She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters in from Mercy College, citing her contributions for the hearing-impaired and deaf community as one of the co-founders of C.H.E.A.R., Inc. (Children’s Hearing, Education and Research, Inc.).
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Hon. Gilbert Rabin, an attorney, and retired Yonkers City Court Chief Administrative Judge, currently serving as a Judicial Hearing Officer in the White Plains Supreme Court.
She is also survived by her three adoring children, Dr. Jill M. Rabin of New York, Corey B. Rabin, Esq., of White Plains and Marni V. Rabin-Marron of Yorktown Heights, four grandchildren, Erick Rabin, Casey Rabin, Aaron Rabin, and Abraham Marron, her daughter-in-laws, Barbara Friedlander and Nancy Rabin, her son-in-law, Thomas Marron, her sister-in-law Audrey Segall, and many loving nieces and nephews. Zita was predeceased by her brother, Dr. George Segall in 2004.
She was a longtime member of the Lincoln Park Jewish Center, serving as President of the Sisterhood, and President of the Mr. and Mrs. Club among many other community activities. Zita was an exceptional human being, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She always encouraged those lucky enough to be in her circle to do their best and she helped them reach their goals.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at Riverside Memorial Chapel in Mt. Vernon, NY, and will be officiated by Rabbi Seth Sternstein of the Yorktown Jewish Center of Yorktown Heights, NY. The interment will follow at Temple Israel Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings on Hudson, NY. Shiva will be observed at the Rabin home in Yonkers, NY. Family members wish to thank all their good friends for their loving expressions of sympathy.
