Bettie L. Smith

Bettie L. Smith, 93 of Hemet, California passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017. She was born on Wednesday, October 17, 1923 in Waterloo, Iowa to Will and Abra Lane. Bettie is survived by her two sons, Ted W. Smith and his wife, Brenda, and Clinton A. Smith, and his wife, Valerie Joy; ten grandchildren, Aaron, Courtney, Karisa, Jenna, Tanya, Grant, Ryan, Brooke, Chelsea and Victoria; and eight great grandchildren, Jared, Sam, Daniel, Jaymes, Scarlett, Kaleb, Ellie, and Lacey. Bettie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, H. Ted Smith, in 2000, and by her brother, William A. Lane II.

Bettie was a caring, generous and loving woman who devoted much of her time and energy to the betterment of others.

In addition to teaching kindergarten for several years, she was also a member of the Hemet School Board, and volunteered for the Hemet Education Foundation and the Hemet Museum Association.

Bettie was a member of the PEO and the PTA. She was devoted to her community, and to children.

Bettie was a very social woman. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends for special occasions or on a “drop in basis” for conversation, a good laugh and a glass of wine.

Bettie made friends with everyone she met and she was dearly loved, and will be deeply missed by everyone who had the opportunity to know her.
