Betty Lou Spady

Betty was born and spent the early part of her life in South Dakota. She was raised with strong roots before building a full and vibrant life in the Pacific Northwest. In 1972, she made her home in Southern California.

She was the mother to five children: Tad Casteel, Russ Casteel, Ginny Casteel Sznewajs (who preceded her in death in 2006), Brook Weech, and Ria Kratkiewicz.

She was also stepmother to Michael Kirchmann and Robert Kirchmann.

Betty’s legacy lives on through her children, and 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy.

She had a gift for bringing people together including our blended family. Whether she was hosting family and friends, traveling, playing cards around the table, or enjoying trips to Laughlin—where she especially loved to win—Betty created moments that will be remembered and cherished for generations. Her home was a place of laughter, connection, and love.

The last year or so of her life she received care by many caretakers at The Cottages in Hemet. We are so appreciative to them for the tender care she received there.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved her.
