

Bruno Borst, of Sun City, CA passed away on November 10, 2011 at home with his family by his side. Bruno was born on November 27, 1926 in Essen, Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1955. He met and married the love of his life Charlotte Hilss on November 16, 1957. He and Charlotte raised four sons in Detroit, Michigan.
Bruno was a master auto mechanic in Germany, and after coming to America worked in the Aerospace industry. He was a space and aircraft precision machinist who worked on the Apollo and Space Shuttle Programs. Bruno was known for his excellent workmanship and instilled in his sons strong morals and a solid work ethic. He retired after 36 years in the aerospace profession.
Bruno loved his German heritage and celebrated it. He was involved in the German American Culture Centers in Detroit, MI and Sun City, AZ. He was a baritone who sang in the Maennerchor Rheingold and Frohsinn Mixed Chorus, and also played the guitar. Bruno participated in the carnival season, and was a member of the Essener Freunde in Detroit, and a charter member of the Carnival Society in Sun City, AZ.
Bruno was an avid golfer and a member of North Golf Club in Sun City. He took great pleasure that his golf score was often lower than his age, and he won many tournaments over the years. His sons recall their dad taking them to Detroit Tiger games as kids, and him coaching their soccer teams growing up.
Bruno is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Charlotte; his sons and daughters-in-law Frank, Debbie, Rick, Stella, Steven, Tomas and Brenda Borst; and was "Opa" to his 9 grandchildren: Nicholas, Michael, Matthew, Zachary, Daniel, Andreas, Nicolai, Jaden, and Makenna.
