A gentle little girl born February 1st, 1927 to Chester and Ethelyne Slocum,Carol grew up on a farm in Rudd, Iowa. She wouldn't carry the chickens several at a time, because she thought it was mean to hold them upside down like that. She'd cradle them one at a time, and make more trips. Farm life was full of various tasks, her Dad bought John Deere tractors, since the controls were on the steering wheel. A kid could drive one standing up, unlike the Farmalls that had a foot clutch she couldn't reach. Carol wrote a book about those times "A peek at rural life in the 1930's and 1940's in northeast Iowa.
During her senior year in high school,in Charles City, Iowa, she worked in a bank, and decided to make a career of it. She drove to California and got a job at Security Pacific Bank in Pasadena. She made friends there that she would travel the world with. And that would remain with her through the final days of her life.
She met her husband, Edward Fish in Pasadena. They had a son, Steve, and moved to Hemet in 1961. She went to work for Hemet Federal Savings and Loan as a bookkeeper, then as Supervisor of the Accounting dept. She retired 27yrs later as Vice President / Controller.
Edward passed away in 1972. Soon her days were filled with caring for her mother, who moved to California after her husband passed. Carol took care of her the rest of her days.
She got back in touch with friends from the Pasadena days and they traveled through England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Italy, and Greece. In research of genealogy, through New England, and Nova Scotia. She gathered together the pieces of family history, researched the missing areas, and established a complete path for over 400yrs. We are related to that guy that fell off the Mayflower.
She felt happiness, and pride in her grand daughter Lauren, who lives in Bowling Green, Ohio, and loved time spent with her family. Husband Patrick, and the great grandsons Matt, Jon, and Ben. Letters, cards, and pictures were always on tables, and the refrigerator door.
She is survived by her son, Steve, of Hemet, grand daughter Lauren Reinagel ( Patrick Reinagel ), and three great grandchildren, Matt, Jon, and Ben, of Bowling Green, Ohio.
She will be missed by her family, and the many that knew her.
