Dennis Delano Nord was born in Fullerton, California on April 21st, 1944, to Otis and Velma Nord. He passed away April 13, 2016 at Kindred Hospital, Riverside. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna Nord and Barbara Arr, and is survived by his brother Ron Nord. Dennis was Dad to Amy Schroeder (Mike) and Eric (Lynn), along with 5 grandchildren, Austin 21, Rylee 17, Ryder 10, Kobe Dennis 8, and Zoe 4.
Dennis had been a resident of Hemet since 1954. He attended Hemet Elementary School, and graduated from Hemet High School in 1962. After high school, he went to Chaffey Jr. College, and then was recruited by East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. There he earned a full scholarship to play football for the Tigers. He met Carol Ann Young while in college, and they married in 1966. They were just shy of their 50th anniversary this August. Den graduated from ECU in 1967, and received his Master's degree from Northern Arizona University.
Dennis, known by many as "Coach", started his career in Perris, California, and soon transferred to Hemet Unified. It was there that he taught for 33 years, and coached for over 40 years. He taught Special Education, Physical Education, Driver's Education and Health. He coached many sports throughout the years, but his love was always football. Dennis loved deep sea fishing, cooking, sharing recipes, telling stories, coaching, and helping others. "Papa D" cherished his time with the grandkids. He taught them how to drive the Duramax Diesel, shared his love of music and lyrics with them, and of course, always had a story to tell. He was so very proud of his family, especially his grandchildren. He is also survived by countless friends and students, who appreciated the man he was.
Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Dennis had a passion for all kids, so feel free to donate to the charity of your choice that you feel best serves youth.
