Fidela Cantu Lopez

She was the youngest girl of 8 children born to Pedro and Fidela Cantu. Her Mother passed away when Fidela was very young, so she was raised by her loving Father, Pedro. She met the love of her life, Gilbert at a small country fair in Concepcion, Texas. She fell deeply in love with the handsome Gilbert and they married when she was just 17. She must of loved large families because she and Gilbert went on to have 12 children together. They were married for 50 wonderful years leaving a wonderful legacy of strong love and family for their children.

Fidela was a shy, loving and quiet spirited woman. She was known for the wonderful qualities she possessed such as her unconditional love, understanding and patience for all who knew her. She was generous and big hearted. She loved to sing and the children remember that she and their father would sing together as they went on vacations back to Texas. They would travel in a station wagon and she would hand back bologna sandwiches until all her children were fed. Sadly, her beloved husband, Gilbert, passed in 1995. But they enjoyed 50 years of marriage.

In her later years she would grow to love crossword puzzles and had a great love for all birds. She knew many facts about birds and loved having them around her yard.

Fidela was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She will be greatly missed but forever cherished by her children; Robert (Olivia), Gilbert (Carmen), Noe (Myra), Rebecca, Armandina (Ruben) Arnold, Celia (Lupe) Gloria (Richard), and Leonel. Holding dear memories of her will be her daughter in law, Carmen Lopez. She will be forever remembered by her 28 grandchildren and her 30 great grandchildren. Fidela was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gilbert, three of her children, Ninfa, Ricky and Oscar and her cherished grandson, Bobby Ozuna.

Fidela touched many lives and will be truly missed by a host of extended family members and friends and all those who were honored to know her and who loved her.
